I was "between jobs" and looking for a legitimate work-at-home opportunity. Work-at-home opportunities can be found in abundance on the web. Sorting through them and finding the legitimate ones is a much harder task. I automatically ruled out all of them asking for money from me, but that still left a lot to choose from. I used several resources to sift through the ones that sounded like something I could, and would want to, do.
The 1st method I employed was simply entering the name of the prospective company into several search engines. Read the results for anything that seemed off about the company or the position I was thinking of applying for. I also put the name of the company with the word problems or trouble into 1 or more search engines. i.e. John Doe, Inc problems. If you get no results returned from this search on your company it's a good sign!
I used on line groups such as the Better Business Bureau on line, MomsWorkAtHome.com, and JobsForMoms.com as resources. I checked the perspective employer's website. First of all, I wanted to make sure they HAD a website. I made sure there was a physical address and phone number listed for the company. I entered that information into yellowpages.com and checked the legitimacy of the info that way.
After taking the above precautions I applied with Sterling Testing. Based on my experiences with this company I'm comfortable with telling you that it is a legitimate work opportunity.
I only worked for them for a few months. On the positive side: they were easy to deal with, paid promptly, and gave a true representation of what the job involved. The main negative I encountered is that they do not always have sufficient work available to maintain a full-time schedule. In that respect it was somewhat like working for a temp. agency. If you need a steady source of income you may want to consider another option.
