Summer and Fall have finally left the building!
It's time to get the skies out of the garage, or if you're like me, they live propped up in the corner of my bedroom. Dust them off, and let's play!
The choices for ski vacations are many, but, none tops the list higher than Copper Mountain, Colorado. Located in Summit County, towering over 12,000 feet in elevation it is the largest resort area in Colorado. A mere 20 minutes from ski runs in Keystone, Breckenridge and Arapahoe Basin, this is a skiers fantasy. A twinkle catches my eye every time I think of the 280 to 350 inches of annual snowfall accumulating over the mountain ranges and beckoning all winter enthusiasts alike.
Whether you ski or engage in other winter sports like ice skating, snowboarding, snowmobiling or even dog sledding, Copper Mountain and the adjacent areas challenge everyone. From novice to the extreme racer, the vast array of mountain terrains has something to intrigue everyone. Copper Mountain has recently opened up an exciting first in downhill skiing. The "Super Bee", which is Colorado's first high-speed detachable six passenger lift, taking you to what seems to be the top of the world. Accompanying the "Super Bee" is "The Excelerator" lift which is another four passenger detachable lift taking you to the intermediate mountain slope. The faster you go up....the more times you can come down. How cool is that! Copper Mountain also offers free, yes FREE, beginners skiing programs.
Take into consideration the three distinct mountains of Keystone, ranging in difficulty for beginners, intermediate and advanced expanding over 2,000 acres of the most intense powder you'll ever experience. Also, at Keystone, participate in surreal nigh-time skiing. Stars seem to jump out in front of you as you make your way down the quiet mountain, only the sound of your skies against the spraying powder below permeate the air.
The shear old-time beauty that is Breckenridge and it's velvet mountain slopes. Twist and turn down the breathtaking runs and look out at the spectacular views.
Arapahoe Basin with its miles of seemingly untouched terrain take your imagination back to centuries past. The expanse of the valley is awe inspiring as you navigate along expertly groomed ski runs.
Summit county is indeed Colorado's winter playground!
