with people of every color being hung and having been hung, how and why did it become a hate crime?
I know that there will always be a difference of opinion on the question based on the race of the person answering the question, but if you look through out history in general for all countries you will find that hanging people was a form of capital punishment administered to criminals for a good many years with it being a social event on top of it.
when the noose became a hate crime I don't know but I feel that a criminal would have more cause to say it is a hate crime then a person from a specific race given the fact it would be cruel and unusual punishment since a lot of countries no longer practice that form of capital punishment.
by saying that hanging a noose is a hate crime you take it and put it into a context for which will infuriate people along racial lines which allows that type of mentality to propagate further. we as a society have the obligation to move past the hate crime mentality and the only way we can do that is to turn a blind eye to the actions that would keep that mentality going.
in certain areas of the world or of a specific country it may have been used to keep certain people in captivity by using it to make an example of people who stepped out of line but I do not feel that it rises to the status of a hate crime given that it was common practice everywhere on people of all races and nationalities. It may rise to the level of harassment or even to a threat which can be considered a crime depending on whether it was directed at a specific person or group but not a hate crime
