THE UNICORNS GIFT

It all started a couple of years ago. I was on my way to the village market in the town square. When I had the most unbelievable encounter of my life. I met and talked with a real life unicorn. It was a female unicorn I talked to. She told me Jonas that her name was Fey for short.

Fey was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. She was built like a warhorse although a bit sleeker. Her coat being of the purest white. The one thing you noticed is the horn sticking out of her forehead. It had a golden hue about it and must of been two feet long.

I asked her what she wanted with a simple peasant who sometimes worked as a soldier during the winter. Rousing bandits and brigands with the local Militia. She smiled and I swear I was taken in. She had me and I was lost in her dark pooling eyes.

What she wanted from me was simple and yet horrifying. What she wanted was for me to kill her. Taking her horn from her dead body. Then I was to take it back to my home and bury it in my fields.

For you see Fey was near death. She picked me to be the one to receive her horn. The power which would be mine to have. In this case to bury in my fields to make sure I got a great harvest every year.

I could not bring my self to do such a thing. A creature of such majesty and beauty I could not kill. To strike this gentle creature from the earth would be a sin. Then she told me there are others who would use her power for evil.
In a short time they would find her and do unspeakable acts of terror with the power in her horn. She looked into my heart seeing I am a good man. That is why she chose me to have this gift.

I always carry a weapon with me when I travel. I pulled out my short sword looking at her. I asked her if she had any family. She said yes two sons and a daughter. Her mate had all ready gone one the year before. Granting his gift to a wizard of some power in the town about a weeks travel past our village.
She said she had all ready said her good-byes to those she loved. She is ready to go on to the next plane. To be with her mate again and she those who have left before her. I felt her chest feeling her heart beating strong. I plunged my blade deep into it. She shuddered then went still.

I cried harder then I ever have in my life. Sorrow over whelming me when suddenly this peace came over me. I saw for a few seconds Fey standing there shimmering as pure light. Then she was gone thought she nodded and winked at me before vanishing.

I did as she requested taking her horn. I gathered up her body to take back as well. I planted her and her horn in my fields. That is why the last couple of years I have had such a huge reaping. For it is because of the last gift of the unicorn.
