Women all over the world have made excuses time and time again defending why they don't wear makeup; their schedules are jam-packed, they don't know how to properly apply makeup, or they simply think that their natural look is sufficient. As a young woman who didn't wear makeup up until a couple of years ago, I can tell you from experience how much makeup can define your bone structure and give you an overall, healthy glow overall. These beauty shortcuts can alter your look in a subtle but classy way, and will indefinitely be added to your weekly pampering regimen.
1) Brighten your eyes!
You obviously know that a quick swipe of mascara over your lashes can make your eyes pop, but concealer pencil or eyeliner can do the same. Use beige eyeliner to rim the inside of your eyes, and they will instantly look bigger and more awake for a fresh look. My personal favorite beige eyeliner is Anastasia Eye Lights Matte, found at sephora.com. Although $21 is a slightly steep price to pay for a mere pencil, it will all pay off in the end when your eyes stand out in a crowd of tired-looking peepers.
2) Break out your eyelash curler
Men may think that this teeny tool looks like a nose picker, but an eyelash curler can help your eyes look bigger and brighter without much effort. Paired with beige eyeliner, mascara, and shadow, you're totally ready for a night out on the town or a lunch date with your friends. You can find eyelash curlers virtually everywhere, so don't spend big bucks on a curler imprinted with a designer name.
3) Sweep on some blush
You might be turned off to blush because you're afraid that it will give you a fake-looking red glow, but that is totally not the case. For a look that brightens your whole face, it is imperative that you choose a shade that looks natural with your skin tone, and use a big, fluffy brush to apply it. Try to center the color in the middle of your cheeks so that it looks natural and gives you a natural flush, like you just got back from a vigorous workout. Great blush can be found anywhere from CVS to Bloomingdale's, so this isn't an item that you should splurge on.
4) Use self-tanner to maintain a healthy glow
If you're like me, you've definitely seen the teenagers walking the streets of South Beach that resemble slutty oranges. This might make you shy away from attempting to use self-tanner, but with the right product, a subtle tan can make you look and feel refreshed all year round. Good self-tanners/moisturizers are hard to find, but try to search for one that is buildable so that you aren't stuck with one color. I personally use Jergens Natural Glow Face Daily Moisturizer weekly to maintain my healthy Hamptons flush all year round.
Trust me, if you utilize these tips properly, they will come with many tips from family and friends who are jealous of your newfound glow. I hope that I have turned you into a mature woman who is educated about how to look fabulous in any situation. Have a great time looking beautiful!
