Humor: Decoding food cravings during pregnancy

Who would have known that a short and petite woman like myself would nearly double her body weight during pregnancy? When I was pregnant with my son, I went from 100lbs to 185lbs. I craved tacos, pancakes and jello. Sometimes, I would have all three at the same time. I made a box of jello everyday, and I would even get creative by mixing different kinds to try to add variety to my cravings. For some reason I had to have a taco with every meal. Even if we had something like spaghetti for dinner, I would need a taco with it. Luckily we lived walking distance to Taco Bell and my husband did not complain too much when I sent him to go pick it up. Pancakes were my favorite food when pregnant with my son. I would get up every morning at 5am and make a stack of pancakes for breakfast. Interesting thing is that my son's favorite food is pancakes. He would eat them with every meal if I let him.

When I was pregnant with my twins, I craved carbs. I had to have pasta and bread. I would go through one loaf of bread per day by myself. I would have at least eight pieces of toast for breakfast, about two or three sandwiches for lunch. For snack I would have about six pieces of bread and butter and then for dinner I would eat spaghetti or some other kind of pasta and follow it with more bread. Go easy on me now, I was eating for three! With my twins and all that bread I only gained about sixty pounds. My twins were born at seven pounds and six and a half pounds and my husband insists that it was all the bread I ate. Funny thing is that so far neither one of my girls will touch bread. If I put it on their plate, they turn their nose up at it.

I have not had jello since I was pregnant with my son and sometimes the sight of a taco sickens me. Oh and I only have two pieces of toast with my breakfast now.
