How to reach high ceiling cob webs

There are two things to consider when removing cobwebs from high ceilings.

Firstly, will the type of implement you use actually remove the cobweb, or just smear it across the ceiling? Sometimes cobwebs can get rubbed into the ceiling paint while you are trying to remove them, and it makes them much worse!

Quite a lot depends on the type of cobweb. If they are quite long and in strands, then a normal stick can be used. Try a broom handle or meter rule. This can be twisted around the cobweb to remove it.

I like to use natural fiber dusters with long handles for general use. I have a lambswool one, but I also think feathers are good. The reason both these are good is that have lots of little fibers/hairs to catch the bits of cobweb that fly off when you knock them.

The second thing you have to consider when removing cobwebs is the safety aspect. This doesn't mean keeping away from large spiders! This means keeping your feet on the ground or on a firm surface.

If your ceilings are high, then there is a temptation to balance on the arm of a settee or on a chair to reach high cobwebs. Don't do it! 99 times out of 100 you'll be OK, but if you do fall, you'll be very sorry. Use a brush with an extension handle to reach the ceiling, or use a step stool. I find that kick stools are very useful. They have little wheels on the bottom that allow you to kick it along, but they lock when you put your weight on it.

So yes, those cobwebs need blitzing - but do it safely!
