In general I don't think that a condo is a very good investment. There are circumstances where it is good for some people I guess but personally, I can't see paying as much or more for a condo as you would for a comparable sized house. I guess maybe if you are an elderly widow who doesn't like yard work or maybe can't do yard work and you have problems that would make it hard for you to take care of a home, then maybe a condo would be a good investment.

I have found that most condos have all kinds of fees associated with them that drive the costs way up. Some of them are needed but most of them are petty little ways of the developer finding other ways to make even more money. There are many condos and townhouse here in Denver that go for half a million or more. Even if I had the money, that to me is NOT a good investment. I am just not a condo type person.

I would much rather spend $250,000 on a nice house with a yard and room to have a small garden . I like to be outside and i take pride in having a nice yard and flowers for everybody to enjoy. I want room to have a dog and i don't mean one of those fuzzy little overgrown rats either. Give me ans Akita, a Lab, or a Rotteweiler. Yes you have to deal with roofs and plumbing problems but you have to do that with a condo too. There are homeowners associations that can be a pain but generally I think they are easier to deal with than condo owners. In general condo owners tend to be wealthy retirees who have nothing to do but complain and make stupid rules. Give me a house anytime.
