In this calorie counting society it is important to arm ourselves with enough information to make calculated choices. One way of doing this is if restaurants are required to list fat grams and calories on their menus. Wake up people. We need all the help we can get. Obesity is out of control. Soon it will kill more of us than car accidents. That is more than 40 thousand, yes, forty thousand people a year. The strain on the health care system is almost staggering. The effects on our workforce is nearly unmeasurable. We are fat people. And we need to get it under control.

Larger portions of food offered in restaurants has been identified as one of the biggest contributors to the largeness of America. There are 900 calorie burritos and eleven hundred calorie cheeseburgers offered to us. Whereas a hardworking farmer toiled in the fields all day to come home and consume a hearty meal of meat and potatoes we, as modern consumers, work all day at sedentary jobs and eat much more calories than the farmer of the past. This does not limit the vagaries of the diet of a farmer in america at an earlier age it just exposes our greater consumption of fats.

It is time we are given information of what kinds of fat are being offered to us and how we can pick and choose what types of food we consume.

It's like P.T. Barnum used to say, 'You can fool..."

It is time for us not to be fooled. Give us honesty in labeling. It is easy enough to do so.
