Tips for succeeding in an online university

Online university's are a new breed of education. A online degree isn't for everyone nor is online courses. One of the biggest tips I give to anyone considering doing online courses is to first look into it at their community college. Online degrees are not looked up on as much as one would think. They have many downsides and many places claim to be accredited universities when they are not. By attending online courses through a community college you are allowing yourself to test the waters at a much cheaper price. Online courses are not for everyone. If you are not a self taught learner I would not recommend this. The homework load can be down right tiring for anyone and there is usually no room for any malfunctions. Alot of teachers will not accept late work. Now days most community colleges offer online courses that still have the flexibility of meeting with the teacher if needed. This cant happen if you live 2000 miles away from the teacher. Online courses allow one to study at there own pace in the given amount of time for work covered. I am currently taking accounting online, and can expect to do 8 hours of homework a week. Each week you are expected to have all assignments in by deadline. If your computer goes down then its still looked at as not the teachers fault and you are expected to get your work in. The biggest issue I have with online courses is the lack of communication. If you wait till last minute to do homework and are stuck with a question there is no guarantee the teacher will get back to you to answer it before the assignment is due. Online courses are not meant for the weak of heart and should only be considered by those that are very serious on there education.
