When I was a child I had the well known childrens condition 'Whooping Cough'. I would do an almost high pitched wheeze followed by alot of coughing. I can remember how sore it was on my lungs, the gasping, wheezing and coughing a scary experience in itself. After I had got rid of the Whooping Cough, I spent the rest of my childhood with a weak chest finally being diagnosed with Asthma when I turn 20 years old. My parents took the diagnoses harder than I did, they felt so helpless and at times got frustrated because there was nothing they could do for me. Being the youngest and still living at home at that time, I can remember how scary the experience of asthma attacks was at first for both my parents and myself.
But I think as a parent of a child with asthma its important to remember, that children learn to cope very quickly with childhood illnesses and conditions and after a short period of time it nothing to them. It usually takes the parents a lot longer to deal with the thought of their child having and illness or sickly condition.
