A very special friend

My greatest and oldest mate called me the other day (we live a good few miles apart now so the phone makes up for not seeing each other that often)
He has cancer of the lung and brain, I cried, I cried so much it hurt, a bit embarrassing as I was on a train platform at the time.
After the shock settled I realized for the first time in my life that we, the boys that ruled bermondsey, the two little thieves from the backstreet were not immortal we are middle aged men.

This was the boy who shared my life for nearly fifty years, shared my girl fiends (even married one of them)
The first time I got drunk he was there as he was when I got high, got engaged, got engaged, got engaged, got engaged, got arrested (a few times)got married, had my kids (the god father to my daughter as I am to his)we have spent the best and worst of our lives together but never judged each other, what ever the man does is good by me.
But now this, the big C, what will the outcome be,who knows.Whatever happens one day the adventures of steve and clive will continue. By the way his pony tail has dropped off (due to chemo and radio therapy) and in my heart of hearts ain't really a bad thing to happen to a fifty year old man (now you know how I feel)
What ever happens mate we will always have our bond and I will always have my memories and a need to share them with the world.
