Nurturing. Definitely.

So many children now a days come from broken homes and need a bit of nurturing and care in their lives and lets face it, caring for them can't exactly do them much harm. I spend about 10 hours a day 5 days a week and about 6 hours on a Saturday dedicated to school, thats more time than we spend with our parents at home so surely we must get nurturing from the school to make up this difference? My school is rigorous to the extreme, it affects what we can and cannot do outside of school hours and not on school property, if you have sex or do drugs etc you get expelled. But, as you would imagine, this does not cut down on the amount people have sex and do drugs. They just lie about it more, so in the end all they are teaching us to do is lie and be more deceptive. And that isn't exactly the kind of thing you want your children to be taught now is it.

As many people may say 'the whole point of school is preparing children for the outside world'. So, saying this is true, surely sending the children to a rigorous school is saying that the world is like that? Hardening them up, making them less caring and less loving by giving them an education like that, is that the 'next generation' you want to succeed you?

Childhood is a magical thing and you only get it once. You have to make the most of it during this time and not grow up too fast. Surely giving children a rigorous education is not allowing them to be 'just kids' but forcing them to work hard and putting them under stress. Giving them no time to play and laugh, taking their imagination from them and telling them what to do. Where as nurturing them allows them to learn maths and English, but also allowing them to be loved, cared for and be children all at the same time.

So for me it is nurturing every time. But just one question look at what your education was like. I know i would do anything to be in a more nurturing environment, wouldn't you?
