Sirs,
The debate title raises more sociological issues/questions than perhaps some would like...but I would like to say the following:
The most important part of this debate, as I see it, stems from the words ...LACK OF !
The following questions might arise from this:
Are low-income families going to be 'disenfrachised' by this lack of broadband connectivity ?
Do the rich-educated 'Patrician' classes want to control/administer what the poorer 'plebeian' classes have access to... regarding modern education...or, are they worried that, despite the forces in play to suppress the poorer-classes... political machinations/chicanery may be questioned by the electorate if they have ready access to other political viewpoints ?
Surely if there is a LACK of something in low-income communities...there should be an automatic/righteous response to provide that 'something' that is lacking ?
I know that there seem to be technical problems with broadband connectivity...throughout the world...but it seems to me that wherever there is a surfeit of money...the technical problems seem to 'vanish' into the ether !
Is it an issue for low-income communities ? Without a doubt ..yes !
If the situation arises that certain communities/people cannot 'afford' broadband...then I'm afraid, it equates to these unfortunate people being disenfranchised...as they seem to be with regard to health-care !
There are those within the established 'education business' who would wish that education is their 'business'...and no other organ/medium should intervene...yet these same people utilise the Internet to enhance the 'education' of their students.
So, really the question is/should be...who benefits from low-income communities not being connected to broadband ?
At the moment...there are numerous web-sites that 'serve' to 'educate' and enlighten us...about the world we all live in.
Do we really believe in a society... where only a select group, who can afford it, should be able to avail of what was given freely to us all some years ago ?
