Sun River, Oregon: How to honeymoon in a wilderness retreat

Nestled in the pines near the base of Mount Bachelor, Sunriver is the perfect place for a romantic wilderness honeymoon.

Thirty minutes outside of Bend, Oregon, this small community was built with relaxation in mind. A small airport services the resort town, allowing honeymooners to make a quick retreat after their wedding. The Sunriver resort offers a variety of luxurious accommodations ranging from cabins to plush suites as well as offering full spa treatments.

For couples that want an active honeymoon, this is the place to be. There are miles of biking trails in the area. Smith Rock State Park boasts some of the best rock-climbing in the state. For hiking enthusiasts, the nearby National Forest offers plenty of options. The Deschutes river is also a popular choice for kayakers, fishers, and rafters. In the hot summers, it is the perfect place to cool off.

Couples honeymooning in the winter will be enchanted by the atmosphere that envelopes the community. Horse-drawn sleighs can whisk couples off to a candle-lit dinner. Snowshoers and winter sport fans, Mt. Bachelor offers world-class slopes at a fraction of the cost of other resorts. After a day on the mountain, couples can retreat to one of the many saunas or hot tubs to ease away their sore muscles. The Inn on the Seventh Mountain is a popular spot to dine between the Mt. Bachelor and Sunriver.

The short drive into Bend will bring a variety of entertainment options for honeymooners. The town boasts a large selection of micro-breweries as well as a riverside amphitheater where you can catch one of your favorite musicians in concert. The quaint Mill District also offers a movie theater as well as many restaurants and shops.

With all of the available amenities combined with its location in the picturesque high desert, Sunriver is the perfect honeymoon location for couples wanting to get away.
