Oh, dearly beloved dorm life. I only suffered living (with another person) in a 12x12 room (which I paid $10,000 for 8 months... eek!) for one school year. I lived in a 4-story coed dorm, boys on the 1st and 2nd floors and girls on the top.
Most dorm rooms have dry erase boards on their doors. I think every girl on our floor had one. The boys in our building used to come upstairs at night and write "funny" things on our doors such as, "I'm pregnant."
We started complaining about it, so the guys wanted to irritate us even more. One morning I woke up, started walking down the hallway to the bathroom and noticed a huge penis drawn on my neighbors' door. I kept walking and realized they were on EVERY door! When I say door, I mean door, not the dry erase board. They literally drew with permanent marker a large penis on every door on our floor. But they didn't stop with our floor, they vandalized the other girls' floor as well.
We were outraged! Our doors were wooden, so the marker was not coming off. We had a floor meeting that night, where we were informed that it was our responsibility to remove the drawings, or we would be fined.
Oh, gotta love the dorm.
Fining is another wonderful perk of dormlife. There is usually a "community" kitchen, to share amongst the building. Some of the girls would bake cookies or cakes, only to find them completely eaten the next morning. If dishes would be left out, our RA's would threaten to fine us for having a dirty area.
One weekend, someone on the boys floor threw up all over the hallways. Our whole building got fined for that, too.
All-in-all, my coed dorm experience was fun, but it was also very annoying at times!
