The woman on the bike ahead,
Was peddling steadily,
Her shopping bags hung on the bars,
They swung so rhythmically.
I walked behind her,
Deep in thought,
My gut played with a feeling,
Then came a sickening distraught.
The car was speeding up the lane,
I called to her, but she'd not hear,
I called to her again so loud,
As I heard the car change gear.
By now, the motion was just slow,
As if seen in a movie,
The driver didn't care for life,
I turned and waved a plea.
He clipped her wheel at great force,
Sent her reeling high above,
He didn't stop to see the woman,
Lying in a pool of blood.
I ran to her, got out my phone,
To get the help she needed,
I tried to stop the bleeding,
"Oh, please, please live" I pleaded.
She never stood a chance,
For she was dead,
The sirens filled my senses,
And my heart was full of lead,

I press my hands to my chest.
I will my body to remain calm,
In my mind, there's enough
I've run out of saints to pray to
And God just sits there with eyes turned to the wind
