The argument against college

Going to college and getting a degree is one of the best accomplishments in life! Yes it's expensive and yes there is a chance after graduation a student will not get a job with their major. I say that college is an accomplishment because there are so many benefits of experiencing college life.

As a senior college student myself, I am happy that I decided to go to college. I have plenty of education not only in what I'm majoring in, journalism, but also in business, political science, math, psychology, economics, etc. The education I'm learning in college gives me a better understanding of life. The variety of skills I'm learning will help me make better choices and prepare me for life's challenges.

An Organization and Work Behavior class I'm taking is teaching me about the work environment. I'm learning about workplace values and ethics, employee motivation, improving task performance, how to handle personalities in organizations, etc. I believe every working person should take this class! A student in this class has the advantage of knowing what many workers will never know.

College help people communicate better. Classes have students work together for assignments and there are student organizations for interaction with peers. There are also many volunteer activities available. College is a great place to meet new people from different cultures. In fall 2006, IUPUI, Indiana University-Purdue University of Indianapolis, enrolled students from all 50 states and 122 foreign countries.

As mentioned earlier, there is a chance a graduate will not find a job with their degree, but it's also a good chance a graduate will find a job. Students have to really figure out what they really want to do. They should not choose a major for the money they will make or a major that don't seek their interest. Their major should be something they enjoys doing and would like to do for a life time. They should wake up and enjoy going to work in the morning because their career is something they love to do. So if a graduate selected the right major, they will do everything it takes to get the job they want.

For example, I love to write so I decided to major in journalism. To make sure I get a journalism job after graduation, I'm going to write as much as possible, get my stories published, get as much experience as I can with internships and take the right classes to enhance my journalism skills. I am confident I will find a job and every graduating student should feel the same.

For students to get the most out of college, they should attain lots of education, get involve to meet new people, make a difference in community service, choose a career they really want to do and do whatever it takes to get their dream job. Once that's completed, students realize going to college and getting a degree is one of the best accomplishments in life!
