Are we safer now than we were immediately after 9/11, or have we just been lucky?

I think that we are definitely safer than we were before the 9/11 tragedy. How could we not be, before 9/11 most American's went about their day with little thought to the danger we were in. 9/11 served as a wake up call to everyone. There are people out to get us!

Now do not get me wrong, I believe that we are still in danger. As a matter of fact, I think there might be even more people and/or groups looking to target us then there ever were before. But surprise is no longer on their side. People in the United States of America no longer believe that we are safe from the killing that is occurring in other parts of the world. Our war on terror, while driving many into the jihad against the evil American's, has also taught us how to keep one eye open and pay more attention to what is happening in our every day lives.

The intelligence and police units now know that they should be keeping an eye on the little details as well as the big. And we know that it is important to keep better track of who is coming and going from our country. While we have more than enough work to do to protect ourselves even better in the future, we can breath a small sign of relief knowing that it is better than it was.
