Thanksgiving Crafts for Kids: Thanksgiving Cards

Homemade Thanksgiving greeting cards are much more meaningful than store-bought. They create memories which the recipient will treasure for a lifetime. Here are a few great ideas for Thanksgiving cards to make with your kids. For each of these craft projects, you will need a piece of paper twice the size of your envelope, folded in half. For best results, use high quality paper with a high rag content. When you complete the individual Thanksgiving card projects, place a greeting both on the front of and inside the card.

Thanksgiving Turkey Feet Card

Cover your craft table. Fold a chenille stem until it looks like a turkey's foot. Place some brown craft paint in the old lid of a butter or cottage cheese tub. Dip the turkey foot into the paint, then blot it on some newspaper. Lightly press the turkey print down on the front of the card several times so that it looks like a turkey walked across the card. When the paint has dried, apply a small amount of glue to each turkey foot. Shake some glitter onto the feet, and pour off the excess.

Thanksgiving Turkey Card

Draw a turkey on the front of the card. You can do this by tracing your child's hand, and painting or coloring inside the card. You can also create a turkey for your Thanksgiving card out of construction paper. Look at pictures of turkeys and drawings of turkeys on the web for ideas. Finish off your Thanksgiving turkey card with wiggle eyes, to make him look more lively.

Thanksgiving Cornucopia Card

Draw the shape of a cornucopia on a piece of brown construction paper. Make this pattern the reverse of what you want your cornucopia to look like. Cut out the cornucopia, and glue the front side with the pencil marks to the front of the card. Cut out pictures of fruit and vegetables from old magazines or junk mail flyers. Try to find Thanksgiving related fruits and vegetables, such as pumpkins and corn with the husk.Create several leaves from construction paper by cutting the paper in the shape of the leaves, and coloring them with colored pencils. Glue the leaves down first, then glue the fruits and vegetables on top of them. Give your cornucopia some definition with by shading with a colored pencil.
