I believe the school system needs to be rigorous. I am writing about this topic because it is something that I believe in heavily. The school system as it is now allows too much leniency when it comes to work, social behavior, and overall respect for authority. We as a society don't spend enough time on education. We are at an all time low for High School drop-outs. Most people don't even realize this mistake until they are in their late twenties, when work is so hard to get. I think we should allow for a tougher curriculum. Kids in this day and age are growing up a lot smarter, but with far less ambition and common sense. We need schools that work with the parents on cracking down on "slacker" attitudes. If the child shows the potential, they should be treated like they have that potential. We should have great expectations for our children as far as education comes from. They expect the parents to help in schooling the kids, well, the schools should live up to their end of the deal also. If the child does math at a fifth grade level, and he is in the third grade, then the child should be put in a fifth grade class. We as a society let our children take the easy way out too much. We expect them to learn, but if they are bored in class because they are far superior to the work at hand, they should be able to meet the challenge. Too many people are afraid of their children "burning out" on school. You will never know if you don't try. The school system should update themselves to include an ever changing world. That means they have to be rigorous when it comes to the children's work ethic.

The school system needs to take a look at the children's social behavior as well. I think the school system needs to implement a stricter dress code in all schools. I also believe that children should be taught etiquette and mannerisms in school as well as in home. There should be strict penalties for abusing healthy social behavior. If the school system was allowed to be a little more rigorous and disciplined when it came to this, we may not have half as many crazy kids that don't care about anything.
The school system needs to be rigorous. It needs to be challenging so children will be allowed to take everything they can from the experience. It needs to be difficult to improve our own society's worth. If we have a challenging curriculum, perhaps in the future we will have children that rise to the occasion, not children that sit down in shameful silence.
