The Bible beginning in the book of "Genesis" and throughout the rest of the books, continually warns us that "the wages of sin is death". And that if we do not ask Christ for forgiveness of our sins, we will be condemned to the eternal fires of Hell. If you believe, as I do, that the Bible is the divine word of God, then you believe that Hell is a real place. Neither God the Father, or Christ the Son, would warn us of a place that did not exist.
The Bible tells us that Lucifer was once an angel and led a rebellion of angels against God and the remainder of the angels. Following the heavenly battle, Lucifer and his followers were cast out of Heaven and into the Fiery Pit for eternity. And that all those who do not accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior will join Lucifer in the Fiery Pits of Hell for all eternity. The description and terms used to describe Hell throughout the Bible indicate that it is a place where sinners are continually tormented, punished, and in great pain. With absolutely no hope of ever receiving any relief. And especially throughout the New Testament, we are constantly told and reminded of the only way to escape eternal damnation is through Jesus Christ.
It is through my acceptance of Christ as my Savior and asking him to forgive my sins, that I am secure in my belief in my going to Heaven following "Judgment Day". My being good, going to church on a regular basis, helping others, or any other acts that I might perform will not keep me from going to Hell. Only my faith in Christ can keep me from eternal damnation. As a believer I should have the desire to live a better life, to help those less fortunate than myself, and to attend a church where the Word is preached and taught. The Bible does not single our any specific denomination as being better or more correct than the others. My mission, once I have accepted Christ, is to become more knowledgeable in the Word, and to bring God's Word to others.
Like Heaven, Hell is a very real place. And our decisions in this world will determine where we spend eternity.
