Why some people are happier than others

There's an old saying that goes, "Happiness is a state of mind" and I truly believe it. Happiness is a choice we make regardless of our circumstances. There are plenty of people in the world experiencing hard times or failures but they still manage to remain happy. The reason is simple. They made a conscious decision to look for the positive in life and not let life's frustrations hold them down.

When a person stops thinking like a victim and begins taking responsibility for his or her life, happiness has a way of visiting more often and staying longer. Unhappy people tend to blame everyone else for their problems, which makes their problems seem bigger than they really are. It's a defeatist attitude and causes a vicious cycle that is hard to overcome.

As soon as you start believing that you have no control over your life, something inside you will switch off and you'll only see the negatives in things around you. Any time something goes wrong, it further convinces you that you have a horrible life and down you gointo a funk.

However, if you approach the world believing that you do have some control over what happens to you, you become empowered and know that the things you do make a difference in some way big or small. You don't need to blame anyone for your problems because you can find solutions. This is a very satisfying feeling and leaves you content with life in general.

So, if you find yourself unhappy, change the tape that plays in your head. Stop counting all the things that are wrong or things you don't have. Look at your strengths and gifts and figure out how you can use them to improve your life.

Most importantly, don't compare yourself to anyone else. You only have to be the best "YOU" that you can be. And, you deserve to be happy.
