The nature and purpose of literary analysis

There are people who make a living analyzing literature. They are generally snobby and paid well, and their perceptions of people work lead millions to read and interpret what the literary gut said. I say bull.

What qualifies this stuffed shirt to tell me what I should read and how I should interpret the author? God gave me a brain as he did this person. He also gave me sense enough to pick through the hardbacks or paperbacks and decide as I read them weather or not I like the writing style and the general plot.

It's the same way I feel about movies made from books. They are the screenwriter and directors point of view on the book. Period. You are watching what someone else interpreted in a literary work. Plus they add Hollywood side effects to draw crowds.

For example, Steven King's book, "The Shining". I thought it was a great book, but Stanley Kubrick ruined it. I don't think he even read it. I took it as a totally different work that they gave the name, "The Shining"...based on the novel by Steven King. Sounds like Hollywood money to me. Many people when approached about a book say, "I'll wait until the movie comes out". That means they are too lazy to form an opinion. Everyone's opinion of literature is different.

Everyone likes Shakespeare. Someone tell me why. He even had to dress men as women to perform his plays. What was his motivation? Some Shakespeare I like...most I don't. Now throw me out of the club of literary annalists.
