Education: How to improve your study techniques

It is imperative to have good study skills for college exams. Good study habits start when you are young. You begin to develop your strengths and weaknesses in developing the right study skills for yourself.

I feel taking good class notes will improve how you prepare to study. From your notes in class you know what you will be tested on. If an instructor makes a point twice, uses an overhead projector or writes on the board, you will be tested on what he says.

It is a good idea to read the text. You can take notes from the text and highlight your text on important information you will be tested on. If you highlight your text, it becomes easier to read and understand important information. You do not need to read everything in the text. Before you take notes from you text, you should review the title, the index headlines, chapter summary and chapter questions and vocabulary. If you are reading history or English literature, it is easier to graph or chart important information in a diagram as you read.

Review your notes everyday for at least an hour. Read to refresh your memory on important notes to class relative to your text book. It is a good idea to write notes down so you can read them. If you memorize your notes, it is best to use index cards or to divide important information in half a sheet. Study with a partner is helpful too. This will clarify things you do not understand.

While taking a test, the student shall eliminate to find the best answer. It is a ques to recall what the teacher said in class in deciphering answers. For essay test, review all information in a persuasive answer using information discussed in class. You can write answers the day before the class on questions handed in the test and regurgitate all information written the day before to answer on your essay test.
