Talking is healthy in most situations in life. Thinking of debt, this really is no exception, and there is a whole learning process that can follow actually talking to someone that not only knows about debt, but has the answers to the problems that you face.
Debt is an accumulation of situations that combine but that equate to your income being less than your outgoings and that really can be bad news. At a time in life when you think you are in control, suddenly every letter becomes a bill, and the mountain gets so high that you are frightened of confronting it and climbing up the mountain face in order to defeat that awful feeling of hopelessness. The kind of people that get into this situation daily in a world that promises everyone on the television about easy credit terms come from all walks of life and include ordinary people like you and me that just lost control.
Who should they talk to ?
Looking logically at the debt situation, those loved ones are the obvious choice because they also need to know that their spending habits are not contributing to the debt, though the talking doesn't or shouldn't stop there. There are many ways of tackling debt, and no one has to feel that they are alone in their dilemma. Here are some of the people that will help and guide you through that pathway up the mountain and help you smell the roses again:
*Bank Manager
*People you owe money to
*An accountant
*Your family

People offer credit to pay credit, and no matter how rosy their advice is on the television screen what they are offering you is more debt. Your Bank manager knows you. He knows your spending habits, your income and your financial behavior better than anyone else does. Try explaining to him your predicament, because many banks will have specialists that can talk you through the stages of getting out of debt as part of the banking service for which you pay with your bank charges.
Take with you a list of all you owe money to and all proof of income of the family, and they will try and help you if you show that you are a responsible person who doesn't actually want to be in a sink or swim situation any more. At this stage, it really help your case if you have always advised those people you owe money to about late payments as your reputation depends upon the way you behave.
If you have a mortgage with the Bank discuss ways that payments can be made less during your difficult period. This will mean at the end of the day that you pay the Bank more in interest,
