When looking for that special romantic getaway or vacation many would past by the inland resort of Telluride in Colorado.

Lying snug in the valleys beneath the towering Colorado peaks of the San Juan Mountains, most would associate this genuine mining town with a variety of activity based vacations. For example, in the winter Telluride offers Helitrax and NASTAR racetrack, where you can be dropped from the skies onto challenging ski runs or, in the case of the latter, pit yourself against others in various time trial ski events. Even in the summer there is a plethora of active breaks available; from river rafting to kayaking and climbing to camping. Alternatively, you can get involved with the multitude of festivals, featuring Jazz, film and wine, to name but a few.

Yet, in addition to all these challenging adventures, there is one thing that Telluride does better than most, which is to provide the ideal setting for romance. For those who want to share the love they feel for each other with an unforgettable and memorable experience, Telluride is the place you need to be.

From the time you set eyes on this historic Victorian town and Mountain Village close by, the breathtaking views will light the romance within. Your heart will sing as you try to decide between the wide range of accommodation available. For the man, make sure your lady is pampered and choose one of the luxury hotels, such as Tempter House, which offer luxury bedrooms with all the amenities for romance, like an intimate shower. Enjoy also the many spas available with their massage and Jacuzzis designed to relax and invigorate. Alternatively, if you prefer a more secluded location why not rent one of the cabins available at places like Skyline Guest Ranch, where all the services of a hotel are provided but with the extra benefit of privacy.

In the morning you will waken with your lover to be greeted with spectacular views across an almost never-ending vista of mountains and snow that feels like seventh heaven, ready for a day of romance. You could spend the morning gently skiing together across this rugged but peaceful terrain. Perhaps you might also want to cuddle up together on an intimate sleigh ride and allow yourself to be transported across the snows to an intimate restaurant. For even more closeness you could actually dine of the sleigh itself as many of the operators provide this facility. What could be more intimate than being cosseted together and sharing a meal amidst the snow on the mountain slopes, as the horses carry you on your way?

Of course there are a number of romantic restaurants where you can dine together by candlelight, only having eyes for each other and the breathless view as you sample the varied and wonderful cuisine that Telluride has to offer. Afterwards you could spend time together sharing the experiences of one of the musical or art venues.

For those who want to that special moment when they ask "will you marry me" to be etched in the memory of their lover for all of time, there is a choice of several places in and around Telluride where you can perform this loving act. Take your lover up high in the mountains to "The Plunge" where it feels as if you can see the whole world, to drop to one knee. Alternatively, arrange for a moonlit ride on a gondola and place the ring on her finger as you float about the brightness of the night sky and the lights of the town twinkling like stars below.

Telluride is romantic and beautiful and it offers a blanket of tranquil, dazzling and emotional settings and activities for that special lovers embrace.
