Putting together the pieces that create success: Action

Sarah jumped into the car, started the engine and sped off down the road heading north. She had only driven a few miles when she encountered her first intersection. Sarah studied the road signs, Hwy 31, straight ahead, Hwy 234, left, Shady Grove, right. She had no idea which road she should take. The car behind her blew the horn and Sarah went straight confused and unsure about her choice.

She had been driving about 30 minutes when Sarah ran into a detour leaving her with two choices, right or left and no road signs. Frustrated she took the right hand turn and continued on. The road was narrow, rough, deserted and lined with guardrails on both sides. She drove for several miles without seeing a sign of anything or anyone accept the dense woods that surrounded her. Sarah knew she should turn around and go back but she could not find a spot where she felt she could turn around safely. Sarah felt a knot beginning to form in the pit of her stomach when suddenly the car jerked swiftly to the right almost sending her into the guardrail. She climbed from the car the knot in her stomach growing. Sarah had never changed a flat tire before and a tear trickled down her cheek as she stared up and the down the lonely, deserted road. She glanced at her watch. It would be getting dark soon. Sarah took a deep breath. "Don't panic she told herself, you can do this." She popped opened the trunk and almost passed out from the panic that gripped her. There was no spare tire. Sarah sank to the pavement holding her stomach against the pain, her vision blurred by the tears that streamed down her face. Sarah had not told anyone about her trip. Her husband would be frantic her daughter terrified when they got home and found her gone. Sarah had headed out for a simple daily outing that had quickly turned into a nightmare.

Why was Sarah's trip such a failure? Was she a victim of circumstances or was she a victim of herself? In order to be successful at anything there are several things you must know before you begin your journey. The first thing you should always know is your destination. How can you successfully get anywhere if you don't know where you're going? Sarah could have avoided a lot of her mishap if she had known before starting out exactly where she wanted to go. The second step in achieving success is self-awareness. You have to know who you are, and what skills you posses in order to achieve what ever it is you set out to do. Sarah was not only unaware of her destination
