Chick flicks by definition are not for guys, but, having said that, they most certainly should be, since guys are who take the ladies to see the chick flicks at the local multiplexes. If the film does not offer any enticing factors for the guys, they won't purchase the tickets, and right off the hop you have cut your box office take in half, which is not what any major movie studios wish to do. A movie like The Princess Bride offers forth everything you could ask for in a movie, either from the standpoint of a young child, a male, and, of course, the chicks. The movie is full of humour, unrequited love, tenderness, music, and Mandy Patinkin as Inigo Montoya. These are some of the elements that need to be a staple if a chick flick is going to be able to tread water with guys.

Whether or not we are manly enough to admit whether or not we actually like chick flicks, the bottom line is that we are bound to watch them at some point in our lives, or our relationships. We need to show our women that we can be sensitive and thoughtful and compassionate. The thought of having to go to the movies on chick flick night is a terrifying ordeal for many of the men in the world. Men and women are hardwired in a vastly different way, and as such, their wants and needs are worlds apart. Movies bring out quite the array of emotions in people, and they are usually unique to the x or y chromosome individual. Having said that, it is not a crime punishable by torture for a man to enjoy a movie whose target demographic is women. Some movies are easier to relate to than others. In recent years there have been several decent chick flicks for guys, movies like As Good as it Gets, P.S. I Love You and I am Sam. In the early 80's Terms of Endearment was extremely sappy, but Jack Nicholson's character provided laughs and a break from the lachrymose moments that inundated the soul of the film.

Since studios want men and women to see their films, they need to add certain elements to lure both sexes. Movie executives are aware of this fact, and offer forth fare that can appease the sensitive side of the woman and calm the savage beast within the male. Knowing full well that the desired affect of the movie is to enable our ocular cavities to drain some form of salty discharge, there needs to be some elements scattered throughout the film to keep us somewhat engrossed. A good dose of humour goes a long way.
