Getting traffic to my website was a challenge in the beginning. I didn't really know what I was doing and I was definitely not getting much traffic. I read up on traffic and how to direct it and how to make it work for you. I googled everything I could find and then some. I went to the library and checked out some books on marketing strategies. I perused other sites to see what they might have that mine didn't (better marketing I discovered).
I wrote articles with great back links to my websites as well. This brought in even more viewers and in the long run continues to do so throughout the life of the article. A few well placed back links in one or two articles can gain you more viewers than any of the other methods combined.
I put out flyer's and business cards and waited. I got a few more hits to my website. Not nearly as many as I wanted to be getting though. So onward I pressed.
I discovered a few great social networks that had forums and discussions going on that I was able to join in on. I choose the discussions and forums that correlated to my business and would casually mention my own business. I added my website and blog to my signature line and people were suddenly sending me e-mails asking me questions. It was an overnight success! In less than a day I had well over 100 hits to my website and blog, and they were still coming in. I had referral's and inquiry's and more!
I contacted local groups that would benefit from such a website and left them some business cards with my website as well as a few flyers. This works great for any medical type websites or family websites.
As an added bonus, I was suddenly getting e-mails asking for my advice and ideas on promoting websites and blogs. Apparently these people thought I was very successful by looking at the counter at the bottom of my website and side of my blog. I began writing suggestions and ideas on some of the forums and that created even more traffic to my sites.
Though I still use the flyer's and business cards, and still get a few hits that way, I have found it far more successful to use the forums and social networks and concentrate on the subject of my site and elaborate on how well it is working for me as a home business. Success comes in the most unusual places sometimes, and sometimes it is just so obvious!
