Should the FDA require US food manufactures to reveal if foods that genetically modified? Most certainly.
One experiment that was conducted not too long ago was with peanuts and tomatoes. The genetically altered plant had peanuts at the root and tomatoes at the top. The skins of the tomatoes were tougher, harder to bruise. Plus they, the producers were able to harvest peanuts and tomatoes from one crop with less land. Unfortunately, people who were allergic to peanuts ran a reaction to the tomatoes, some so severe it resulted in death.
Another genetically altered experiment was with swine. Human DNA was injected into swine. They gained weight but with less fat. They did get more human ailments such as arthritis. The swine were slaughter and sold on the market. Some people do not have a problem with this, I for one do. There is just something about eating human DNA that just doesn't set well with me.
Animals and plants that have their genetics altered should definitely have labeling on them. There are human allergies to take into account and also human values to take into consideration.
To conclude, definitely the FDA should require labeling to let the consumer know what foods, and to what extent the food has been modified.
