Of all the stupid things I've read recently (and I just recently finished reading an article written about two cities in Texas arguing over which one deserves the George W. Bush library), the title to this article takes the cake as the cliche goes. Modern Wicca has roots in ancient (as in older than the written Christian bible and their Satan) goddess worship and ancient European, African, and Asian magical systems and mysticism. Modern Satanism doesn't even have anything to do with the Christian Satan, so why all the hubbub over every religion that is not Christian being linked to the devil? How about instead of making assumptions about the roots of Wicca you read a book? Here is a list of books that give either a basic understanding of the roots of Wicca or are part of the roots themselves: True Magick by Amber K.; anything Scott Cunningham wrote as well as Raymond Buckland for that matter; but specifically by Scott Cunningham 'The Truth About Witchcraft Today'; Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Addler also has some resources and ideas relating to modern paganism and witchcraft and it's roots.
Satanism as a religion was started by Rev. Anton Levey in San Francisco, California in the mid-1960's, and the Satanic Bible was written around the same time. Modern Satanists do not worship the Christian devil but are more auto-theistic in believing that they are their own God, and they are their own 'Devil'. Altruism is a word that would not appear in the Satanic dictionary. Where as in Wicca, compassion for all beings with energy is very much encouraged.
Besides and as a final thought, Wiccan's don't believe in Satan anyway.
