Teaching kids time management

It takes a parent who has learned time management and has found it works for them, or a family searching for some organization in their lives. This is where a family begins to fall into a routine that will work for everyone, including the children in the home.

As you begin each day with sleepy heads rubbing their eyes. You have the coffee pot on, poured the juice, picked out the cereal and placed the bowls on the table for breakfast. If you have school age children it is important that this is a consistent routine every school day
.
Everyone, by now with some gentle prodding has spent the necessary time in the bathroom dressed in clothes that have been laid out the night before and arrive scrubbed and cheerful for breakfast. Well NO ,we all know this is not how it is in real life!

It is more likely that Susie has lost a sneaker, Bobby can't find his toothbrush and the baby is crying at the top of her lungs. To top it off, you remember that you forgot to make cupcakes that you needed for the party later today. NOW, that is more like the truth, of how it can be even in the best managed homes.

But still there are some helpful hints to help in time management :

Teach children by example how to stay on a schedule necessary to arrive at school and complete tasks necessary, and on time.

Always set the alarm to awaken the same time everyday. Make sure you have enough time, as to not rush a child's pace. A more relaxed morning will give everyone a better start to the day.

Sit down together to eat breakfast. Followed by making sure that each child has dressed or will dress in the clothes they have chose the night before.

Remind everyone to make sure ,each has their homework that was done the night before, placed in their book bags .Patiently review anything else they may need to have with them like lunch money.

If you have allowed enough time, you may even review the words for a spelling test that day.

Drive or walk your children to their bus stop, point out to them the time. Reinforce the needed time to leave so they will not miss the bus.

After school and a snack break and maybe some play time. Begin reminding them of the time they need to be ready for the practice ball game. Let them be responsible for this, it will be a chance for them to become aware of time and scheduling.

Be consistent with homework time, dinner time, and bedtime . Have the children remind you as the parent once in a while if you can ,so they are involved and not always lead in learning a routine.

Living a life with time management, gets easier as time goes on, it becomes the comfortable rhythm of your home..
