Low income? That's so PC, I would rather use poor. Most people think that the Internet is a useful thing, a generalization. Most people think that Internet is addictive, largely unproven. But all agree that Internet is a must for the world of today. So what is broadband? It's like an Internet highway, it allows the Internet to be more than just websites and emails. It allows access to multimedia files, movies, songs and allows the user to have a voice and presence on the web, like in Youtube.

Having said that, if the poor can pay toll for the highway to get places faster. They should not be left out. Just imagine the possibilities for improving their situation is but a mere click away. A undiscovered Stephen King or Agatha Christie, types a story and sends it to Helium and to his or her amazement, a writer is born. Maybe a budding singer post a video of her singing on Youtube and gets noticed, instant stardom!

Far fetched? I would think not. If there is a lack of Broadband connectivity for the low income communities, they will be left behind. Efforts must be made to close the digital divide, which get wider every day. The sooner the communities get connected the better of the future of the people and their children. I believe rich or poor, Broadband connectivity is a necessity.

Mega companies like Microsoft should be approached to help sponsor or set up the Broadband connections in community centers. Slowly but surely get all the communities to be on-line. The future is now.
