Most of the time when I watch a chick flick I am left with the desire to crack open my skull with a ball-peen hammer and scrape out the memory of the last two hours. Seriously, sometimes it's all I can do to not scream "Quit you Freakin' Whining!" On the plus side, it's safe to go to the john and not worry about missing anything - unless she pauses the movie!

There are some good movies that women love that guy can get into as well without feeling like he spent time in therapy. Usually these types have some action, pretty girls and not too much emoting. This is my short list:

THE PRINCESS BRIDE - "Inconceivable!" - a good story simply told with excellent characters, great writing and some captivating settings. It also has the best sword fight ever filmed. The best fairy tale ever.

A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN - "There's no crying in baseball!" - in spite of the fact that there is some world-class female bonding, this movie is good. It has Geena Davis looking hot, Madonna's best acting ever, a hauntingly good musical score and of course, baseball. The only downside is Rosie O'Donnell's enormous head and bad acting. Thankfully she isn't there much.

WAITING TO EXHALE - a good story of a year in the life of a group of women. All of these Black women have talent, play their roles to the hilt and good writing keeps the story from melting into self-consciousness. Each story is advanced in small stages without a lot of whining. Who doesn't want to see Angela Bassett burn her cheating husband's car?
