Great attractions of England

to Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane and the houses were they grew up, topped off with a visit around the Beatles museum and of course no fan could resist seeing the famous Cavern Club, which is where it all began back in the early 60s. The original has long been knocked down but the replica that stands on Matthew Street oozes the original atmosphere. As you walk down the spiral stone staircase you can almost taste the 60s as live music blasts out on a regular basis. And there s no other bar in the world where the beer soaked floor isn't annoying but adds to the experience.

The Sporting Holiday

It s fair to say that Liverpool has a sporting edge boasting not only 2 major soccer clubs, but the current Rugby league premiers St Helens, Royal Ascot Race course Home to the worlds greatest steeple chase The Grand National and the claim of being the golfing capital of England with 7 leading championship venues. But it's the atmosphere at the two soccer stadiums which is a must see even if your not a fan. Goodison Park home of Everton Football Club and Anfield home of Liverpool Football Club are less than 400 meters apart and hold over 35,000 people each. Imagine the barmy army well they are nothing in comparison.

For the more cultural

The restaurant scene has exploded over the last decade with quality worldwide eateries. Liverpool is home to the oldest Chinese community in Europe, which means numerous top grade Chinese restaurants in the cities china town. But the best of these is actually some way away. The Sapporo Teppanyaki restaurant is down Columbus Quay with a marvelous vantage point over looking the historic River Mersey. But the height of the cities cultural cuisine doesn't end there. The Spanish restaurant Alma De Santiago is one of Liverpool s newest treasure s. And four times Merseyside restaurant of the year 60 Hope Street is considered a haven for European cuisine at reasonable.

But if dining out every night isn't exactly your thing or after your meal you need to sample the arts, you re in luck. The city center is packed with theatre s and museums in fact Liverpool has the most of any city outside London along with some Europe s finest architecture including the pier heads 3 graces, The Walker Art Gallery and ST George s Hall.

Where to stay and how to get there

Liverpool has accommodation to suit every ones budget. From the $30 a night family run guest house which will include everything a backpacker would need to the mid range price of a Holiday Inn or Travel Lodge at around $120 per night. But if your money can spread a bit further why not try one of the luxury hotels such as The Marriott, The Crowne Plaza or The Adelphi where there is all you could ever want, but remember you will have to pay for it.

Traveling to Europe isn't cheap ticket start at around $1200 return but this will only get you as far as London so a two week trip is probably out of the question. But if you are planning a European vacation remember Liverpool is the new must see city.
