Testimonies: Why I hate working in a call center

Call center work sure isn't what it's cracked up to be. However most companies offer great benefits and incentives to sign on with them. The work is sometimes tedious and occasionally pretty boring. It is nice if you enjoy talking on the phone. That was the reason for starting my venture into to call center/telemarketing world. I have the gift of gab! Yet this wasn't enough to secure my position in this field of work. Usually I'd get the last pick of a schedule, you know, the one somewhere in between dinner and the late late show. Really, you just need the drive to give up face to face interaction with the human race for eight to ten hours daily. Don't forget about working holidays for that special bonus you usually don't qualify for. I've had several friends who were laid off from call center offices, due to relocation, downsizing, or bankruptcy. This type of business is known for these habits. Although there are two types of call centers, and the difference is sure to let you form your own opinion as to which is worse. The first is an inbound call center. This of course would be the lesser of the two evils. People are calling you. This of course may sound too easy to those of you who haven't experienced it first hand. Most of the time it is alright. Then the seventy-two year old woman that plays bingo with your grandmother on Thursday nights calls to order a swimsuit. Scary thought huh? That's really not the hard part. Because after all she called you remember? Well the next type of call center is out bound and referred to as the dreaded telemarketer. I was one for several years and I myself still hang up on them. So just think about these things the next time you think you hate your job. I'm sure you have a friend or neighbor who moonlights as a telemarketer.
