Comparing schizophrenia and multiple personality disorder

Well now, I find this to be one of the most simple subjects to write about. Schizophrenia is a mental illness that is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. It can be treated with medications like diabetes. As long as the person who has schizophrenia is taking their medications, they are as normal as anyone else.

Multiple Personality Disorder is so wrongly named. It is not a disorder at all. The only way that a person can develop multiple personality disorders is if they have been severely abused as a young child during the years that the personality is developing. What it should be called is Multiple Personality Defense. The mind is amazing. When what is happening to a person is beyond what can be accepted by the mind, it splits. What causes the mind to split. Horrible, unimaginable abuse is what causes it. The more often the abuse, the more different abuses that a child goes through, the more personalities they will develop.

Here is a baby, less than one year old, being raped...yes raped over and over again to prepare her to be in child pornography, to be sold over and over again by the age of five as a prostitute for her father's benefit. Here is a little girl being raped by a man too big to fit inside her so she cries. She gets thrown into a trunk of a car and when she gets home her father puts a hot curling iron up her so that she will learn not cry when she feels that pain. Here is a little girl being shocked by a machine made just for that purpose; torture.

Is this too hard to read? Is this too much to comprehend? These are true stories of my dear friend...friends...she has multiple personalities. They are my friends.

Do not just think that people are "crazy" when they have a mental illness diagnosis. Be thankful. It is not the people who know that they have a mental illness who we should worry about, it is those who do not know that they have a mental illness that we should be frightened to run into. These would be the Timothy Mc Veighs, the Unibomber, Manson, and the John Gaycees who were not diagnosed with mental illnesses.

Don't judge a person by their diagnosis, see what their character is and take it from there. Get to know someone and walk a mile in their shoes. You just might learn something about yourself.
