had let out.
Friday morning at Tommy's, Eddie and Tommy were on the front porch waiting for Arlo.
"I had to mow the grass and help dad clean up the garage before he'd let me go," explained Eddie.
"I got lucky. My sister is having some friends over to spend the night," bragged Tommy, "Mom was proud to get me out of the house."
About that time Arlo rode his bike up to Tommy's porch.

"Can you go?" asked Tommy.
"Yeah, but it wasn't easy. I had to clean my room," said Arlo.
Tommy and Eddie shook their heads. Everyone in the sixth grade knew that Arlo was the messiest kid in school. Tommy and Eddie had seen Arlo's room. The mess in there was legendary.
"How did you do it," asked Eddie.
"I got my little brother to help me," answered Arlo, "Cost me two weeks allowance."
With everyone okayed to go, Eddie brought a checklist of things they would need. They divided up the list and decided to meet at Arlo's grandpa's pond after supper to set up camp.
It was dark when they finally got their tents pitched. The boys took time to have a coke and some cookies Arlo's granny gave them before attacking the pond. They hung their lanterns on the old power pole that that used to run electricity to the irrigation pump years ago. Straight out from where the pump used to sit was a deep hole. Everyone knew that hole was one of Old Jaws' favorite hideouts. Tommy had a big black musky jitterbug tied on his father's favorite spinning rod. Arlo had a Roland Martin spinnerbait dangling from his rod and reel. It had three sets of blades and an oversized trailer hook. When Eddie stepped up to the bank, his two buddies just stopped and stared. He had the biggest rod that they had ever seen in his left hand. On it was a battered old Zebco 808. In his right hand was a 5 gallon bucket. In that bucket was the granddaddy of all crawdads. It must have been 6 inches long and had huge pinchers. Eddie tied a 5/0 worm hook to the 20 pound test line on the old Zebco. Very carefully, he reached into the bucket and caught the big crawdad. Eddie attached it to the hook with a rubber band. Arlo and Tommy looked at their rods and reels and then at Eddie's.
"My dad says you need big tackle and big bait to catch big fish," quipped Eddie, "He use to use this when we went to the beach. Caught a shark on it he did."
Eddie grabbed the big salt water rod with both hands. He reared back and with all his might slung the rod forward. At the very last moment, Eddie released the reel's spool with his thumb. The giant
