Welcome to 2007, where the 'rules of the dating game' have been revised just a tad-bit.
Things that were not encouraged 10 years ago are now accepted and considered normal to todays generation. For instance, in todays young world it is not abnormal for a female to pursue a male. My parents (who are both over 40) were astonished to hear that my girlfriend was the one who approached me. They were even more surprised to know that she is 2 years older than I am.
I believe that the differences in what was accepted then and what is accepted now is the result of premature sex and the fluctuation of teen pregnancy. I also believe that the fluctuation is influenced greatly by popular culture.
Let us be clear on what exactly a "date" is. If you and your partner have agreed to an appointment, then you officially have a date. Usually, the goal for dating someone is to have sex. But this is not true for everyone. I am going to explain myself using the 1-10 system (1 would be getting no action whatsoever, while a 10 would be some hot and sweaty sex on the first night). It is hopefully understood that jumping from 0 to 10 without even dating is a possible option and sadly is accepted by many. Nevertheless, what you do with your partner on the first night is ultimately your decision and your business. There are no rules for dating but procedures that you must follow in order to reach your goal. The first date is merely a pace setter. You are setting the speed at which you would like things to progress, and at the same time deciding if you like the person or not. You already have an idea of how far you want to go before you even engage in anything. All during the first night little hints will be thrown. It is your job to pick up on these hints and pay attention to body language. Moreover, use them to your advantage to reach your goal.
