I love horror movies; there I said it. Now that that's out of the way we can talk about some of the most terrifying horror movies in my eyes. Now granted I haven't been scared, or terrified by a horror movie since I was young, but there's still some movies that put me on the edge of my seat, or give me the creep factor, so here's my list of some of my favorites.
1. Halloween- Besides being my favorite horror movie it scared me to death as a kid. With Michael Myers popping into frame as the movie went along I couldn't help but look over my shoulder as I sat in a darkened room watching the movie.
2. The Thing- I think the sense of paranoia is what really gets me with this movie, and when I was younger, and even too this day you can really sense the growing paranoia, and isolation within the group of men in the movie. The monster was also scary, and yet very cool because up to that point nothing like that was ever put on film.
3. The Descent- I figured it was time for a newer movie on the list, and this is one creepy film. The sense of claustrophobia is so high in this movie it's unbelievable, and when I saw it in the theaters I couldn't help, but feel it myself. Then the monsters show up, and that added to the creepy factor, knowing that they could be anywhere at anytime.
4. High Tension- Wow, just a great tense, horror movie from beginning to end. I know the twist made some people mad at the end, but for me this was one of the best, and most suspenseful horror movies in quite some time up till that point.
5. Psycho- The original version, not the remake was definitely a scary movie for me as a child. The shower scene alone was enough to make me check outside the shower curtain for a long time after I watched the movie. It's one of the best of all-time, and it still delivers to this day.
6. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre- Again the original, not the remake was one creepy, and scary movie. The sheer madness of it all really got to me as a kid, and Leatherface was so menacing, and of course that sick, and twisted ending always left an impression on me.
7. The Shinning- The original was just an atmospheric, tense, thrilling horror film. As we watch Jack slowly slip off into insanity we feel for his family, and we as an audience know that trouble lies ahead. As the movie moved toward the end you could feel the tension as Jack absolutely loses his mind, and attacks his family. Just a great film.
8. The Exorcist- Just the corruption of such a young girl, and things that transpire as the exorcism gets under way is enough to make you think about what you believe. It's a creepy, tense, and flat out scary horror movie, and as a kid it rocked my world.
9. Nightmare on Elm St.- Take one part disfigured dream demon, take 2 parts of normal teenage kids getting killed in their dreams where the killer can show up at any time, and you have yourself one creepy movie.
Salem's Lot- The original movie by Tobe Hooper really scared me as a kid. When the kid turns into a vampire, and appears at his friend's window trying to persuade him to let him in was enough to give me some sleepless nights. Then the design of the main vampire was just plain creepy.
Well I could go on, but I think that's plenty. I hope you enjoyed my list of movies that give me the creeps. Have a Happy Halloween.
