A great Super Bowl party must start with one key item: an excellent TV to watch the game on. You could have great guests and great food, but if your TV sucks, chances are your party will suck.
The next important ingredient to your party is the guest list. The key here is to limit the amount of people based on your amount of seating available. And by the way, don't count on seating three on the couch because guys don't want to sit that close to each other for four hours. Count one person per chair and two people for the couch (don't forget to count yourself).
The next item is food. Always, always, always have chips and salsa at a Super Bowl party. Preferably, have both a hot and a mild salsa, but if you don't want to get both, then just have hot salsa. I would personally recommend Chi-Chi's Hot Salsa. It's chunky, delicious, and has just the right amount of bite to it, hot, but not too hot. Hot wings are also a solid item to include, but not necessary like chips and salsa. Another good item is cheese and crackers, and I'm not talking about sliced cheese, but a cheese ball. If you do want the sliced cheese and crackers make sure you include a meat, preferably summer sausage. Also, don't be afraid to include some real food at your party. Nobody will complain if you bust out some sandwiches or even some pizza.
Another thing to remember: Don't invite people that don't like football. Not everybody has to be a huge football fan or know a lot about the game, but they at least have to like football. Also, try to avoid the people that watch the Super Bowl just for the commercials. We all know some of these people (most of them are our wives and girlfriends). I'm not saying to kick the women out of the party, just try to make sure that most the people are watching the game, not the annoying commercials.
These tips won't guarantee a great Super Bowl party, but they'll start you in the right direction.
