Sports Success
Kids love sports, however parents often love sports for their kids more than the kids do. Here are some simple rules for having a great season.
1. Make sure your child really wants to play. Never force a child to play a sport because you did.
2. Don't complain about the organization of the league, remember most if not all of those involved in youth sports are volunteers.
3. If you think there is a better way to do something, jump in and help they will welcome be happy to have you!
4. Support your coach. Never second-guess the coach, this just causes issues for the child playing and the coach. NEVER criticize the coach out loud during practice or the game. Do not go home and make negative comments about the coach.
5. Do not yell at the officials. This teaches terrible sportsmanship to our youth. Let the coaches handle it.
6. Cheer for every child, I am sure your child will be the best one on the team (I know mine is) but cheer for everyone, support everyone, be happy for every accomplishment and encourage them during every loss.
How parents act during the first years that kids play sports will stay with them forever. This should be a positive experience for a child, it should be fun. Those that give their time so generously to ensure that all our children have a safe place to play sports should be applauded, celebrated and most of all supported!
