"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for one meal, if you teach a man to fish, you feed his family for the rest of their lives..."
If the teachers are not learned, if they do not know how to "catch a fish", how do we expect them to be able to teach less developed countries what they need to know to flourish in todays world economy? A person once said that there are not poor students only poor teachers. This is somewhat true. A student has to be willing to learn, but a teacher must know what to teach, how to teach, have the materials to teach and good training to teach.
I can teach Arterial Blood Gases. I can teach good breathing techniques. Now then I don't think I am prepared to teach starting an IV and giving antibiotics. I have seen this done numerous times. I have even held a patient still while the RN starts the IV's, I however, have never been trained to start and IV. I am a Respiratory Therapist. I would not expect an RN to be able to change my settings on a ventilator based on the Arterial Blood Gases. She has seen it done, might even know which parameter to change, but she has not the training.
Let's hope that people are willing to train these teachers so that they in turn can teach their people survival in todays dog eat dog society.
