Humor: Remembering

by Kelly Sandefur

Created on: October 21, 2007

You know you're getting older when random things start coming to mine from "Back in the Day" as my friends and I term it. The other night, I was searching music from the 80's, being nostalgic for memories of my simpler times, and I came across some items that made me laugh and brought back many a fond memory. The last thing I expected to find was the theme song from "Fraggle Rock"! I used to sit in front of the television enthralled in that show. Jim Henson had done it again, giving the masses of children a show to watch that was entertaining to even adults. I started looking up other songs that had humorous memories attached to them as well. I can across Bel Biv Devoe, Tone Loc, and a few others, and it brought me back to hanging out in my friends' yard, having our own little dance competitions. Great times, all of them, and I hope my kids have these type of memories as they get to be my age.

Look back into your life. What songs or things bring back your memories? Here's a little something I thought up, hope everyone enjoys it:

I remember:
Freeze tag, flashlight tag, playing hide and seek.
Climbing trees, racing bikes, the ice cream truck's many sweets.
Grabbing Barbie to dress her up, she had a date with Ken
Cabbage Patch Kids, we had to have, yes, I remember when.

I remember:
Lightening bugs, catching crickets, the stray cat that lived in the garage.
Birthday parties, lots of cake, and playing games that were quite absurd.
Punchanella, Red Light Green Light, and Red Rover had us rolling in the grass
Simon says and Duck Duck Goose brought all your friends en mass.

I remember:
Radio's blaring Madonna's latest tune, Michael Jackson wasn't creepy yet.
Talking Heads were on the charts, with The Cars and INXS.
Watching Fraggle Rock, The Smurfs; We couldn't miss the Cosby Show
These things take me back to a place where there was only innocence to know.

I remember:
No guns in schools, spanking didn't harm, and parents had a say.
So much simpler times I had before today.
No bills to pay, my rent was free, my dog was my best friend
So ask yourself what it is that you remember when?
