Reflections: Finding the time for love

Time, what's that? I've been married for twenty-two years and have two sons. My oldest is twenty-one and autistic and that alone makes intimacy difficult. My husband and I have to be very creative with our time and take advantage of every opportunity. Therefore, quality not quantity is very important. The time we do get to spend alone together is very important. And I'm not just talking about in the bedroom.

Most people take for granted the simplest things, but we can't allow that to happen. Just sitting in front of the television together while our son is sleeping QUIETLY is a moment we cherish. We get one day a week to venture out of the house for dinner and a movie, and we thoroughly enjoy that. It makes us feel like any normal couple. We hold hands in the movie and I feel like any other woman on a date; it's wonderful.

Never take for granted the time you have together with your significant other, no matter how short that time may be. You never know how long you'll have together or when that time will come around again. I know of some families that work different work shifts and find it hard to find the time to be together, and I understand exactly what they mean. But, love always finds a way. Live for now and don't worry about the things that aren't really important. You know what those things are.
