The pros and cons of using a nanny cam

There are many different types of Nanny Cams available on the market today. Many can be hidden in such discrete places throughout the house, that the babysitter could purposefully look and still never find them. Is using a nanny cam a violation of privacy, or another way to protect your children? Whether you ask the nanny or the parent, you are sure to receive many different opinions on today's option of in-home surveillance. However, there are pros & cons to which ever choice you make.

Usually the main question on a parent's mind when a nanny cam has been considered an option, is "Are my children safe?" In most cases, a parent should already have a good idea on the care their child is receiving before leaving them alone with the nanny.

A lot of times, when a nanny is being held under surveillance, she can feel like she isn't trusted with your children, which in turn can drive a wedge between the budding relationship between her and your child. When designing most nanny cams, manufacturers usually keep in mind the idea to design a camera with the ability to be discrete or hidden from the one being watched. (-The caretaker being spied upon without her knowledge of such.) Whether your nanny searches for such a device, or accidentally stumbles upon it, in most cases the nanny will have a feeling of her privacy being invaded upon, or that her work is in serious question. There is also a plus-side to using the cameras though. There is always a first-time offense that starts an unacceptable behavior in every nanny-gone-bad. Will it be your home and your kids when this woman decides to turn to unacceptable habits? No matter if the background check and references come through cleanly, the nanny could've been stealing or mistreating the children without the previous parents' knowledge of such... unless they were to use a nanny cam. In this case, a hidden camera could help weed out the individuals with other things on their mind besides caring for your child. A lot of times a parent won't realize a small pair of diamond stud earrings missing until it has gone on long enough that there is also a necklace, money, or family heirlooms missing too. Then it is too late.

Also a positive side in the nanny cam: Is to determine whether your child is being mistreated when the nanny is alone with him/her. Many parents think that their child would tell them if they were being treated unfairly while mommy or daddy is away. Amazingly though, many children can be threatened with something as small as "I'll send Mr. Bear far away if you tell", in turn the child will not peep a word of the mistreatment to his or her parents in fear of the nanny going through with the action. With a nanny cam installed in the home, a parent is able to witness first-hand any kind of mistreatment or unacceptable behavior that may be going on.

There is also a very good chance that the nanny you've chosen is the perfect candidate for the job. She interacts well with your child, doting on and playing with him/her, while helping willingly with small household chores. That is, until she finds the cameras her employer has placed about the house, and leaves them for a family that "trusts her".
