Without a doubt, taste is a factor in any kind of food we eat. Most of us make food choices based on taste but the bottom line is that our bodies need fuel, and fuel equals nutrition. This "fuel" keeps our bodies healthy and working properly.
I have found that eating is a mindset. For instance, if you think salads are for dieting, you will be less apt to order one because you are "so tired" of dieting. Restaurants now offer the most amazing array of salad choices and I feel like it is a treat to get one. In the past, I avoided them like the plague and instead ordered foods that I felt tasted better. Sure, mashed potatoes loaded with butter and gravy tastes better, but the old days of counting it as your vegetable of the day is over! Of course when ordering a salad, you still need to look for hidden calories, fats, etc. Eating salads are a great way to lean toward healthy eating.
As I have advanced in age (isn't that a polite way to write it), I have noticed that my tastes have changed and I naturally tend to lean towards healthier food choices. I have also discovered that "healthy" doesn't always mean cardboard tasting granola bars, taste-less lettuce, and soggy tofu. When I was younger, I rarely, if ever, thought about nutrition. I wanted good tasting food (which of course was usually high-carb and loaded with fat!) If you are open to the idea of changing your eating habits, you will find that good nutrition can taste good. Edamame is an excellent example of this. Edamame is a typical Asian dish that I have recently discovered. Quite simply it is a immature soybean that has been lightly boiled, salted and served in the pod. Hands down, I would pick a mound of Edamame before a plate of french fries anytime. A healthier choice and they taste great!
Sure, taste is important, but nutrition is more important. Look for healthy foods and you will find that your tastes will start to change, and before you know it, you will think healthy foods taste good!
