Are doctors motivated by high pay or healing patients? Doctors are forced to pay extravagant malpractice insurance premiums due to the voluminous and frivolous lawsuits filed against them each year by patients.Insurance premiums in conjunction with the costs of medical school and the often rigorous, demanding internships may motivate doctors to demand higher pay for their services.
It is understandable for a doctor to want a higher standard of living that would reward them for the sacrifices they made during college, medical school and internship.
The spiraling out of control medical costs associated with a visit to the doctor are mainly caused by a lack of insurance coverage, increased fees for other services outside the doctors office and increased costs of consumables used by the doctor and not necessarily the doctors themselves.
Doctors ordinarily do not charge extravagant fees for exams or other services provided in their office. Insurers often limit their clients coverages to hold down their costs. The doctors must in turn attempt to provide quality services to their patients in spite of the limitations imposed on them by insurance companies who cover their patients. Fees charged by doctors must adequately compensate them for their work and be affordable to their patients. Increased costs mean increased fees charged by doctors and are usually passed on to the patient.
Doctors are motivated by high pay to cover their costs especially malpractice premiums.Doctors are also motivated by healing as many are involved in providing free or reduced cost services in their office and communities for those who are unable to pay or have little or no insurance. Doctors often volunteer to serve in free clinics during their free time which is evidence for the fact that many of them are motivated
by healing patients and not just higher pay. Unfortunately, higher costs and malpractice insurance force some doctors to charge higher fees. Doctors have the right to make a decent living from their profession and to charge fees that adequately compensate them for their work, experience and education.Doctors are motivated by higher pay to cover their costs and the healing of their patients.
