I was never a huge Seinfeld fan. In fact I only watched it a few times when it went into syndication. Okay, it's pretty good, but I have preferred many other sitcoms over the years, such as Green Acres, Wings, and even Mama's Family. I guess I'm just weird, or it could be because I'm a mailman and I find Newman funny, but disgusting. I will say this, though. Even people who weren't Seinfeld fanatics found the show to be very watchable, but much of the garbage on now isn't.
How many versions of CSI do we need? Some people watch all of them and have a morbid fascination with tortured, rotted corpses. Many more have that same morbid fascination with the big karaoke contest (American Idol), ten argumentative people living under the same roof (Big Brother), and rounding up has beens for a month long sleepover (Surreal Life). I'm guessing that TV Land will still be airing Andy Griffith and Leave it to Beaver fifty years from now. Very few programs that are on now can ever hope to be labeled as classic television. No, I'm not a Seinfeld FANATIC, but I readily admit that Seinfeld already is a classic and will continue to be.
It's surprising that Jerry's underlings have failed on their own, but it would be nice to bring them together again for another blockbuster. If I grow tired of Deadliest Catch or Man vs. Wild, I will gladly tune into Seinfeld Part II in lieu of bad singing or gruesome crime scenes. Come on back Jerry! The television industry needs you more today than the first time.
